To be Honest I needed the toilet, but was told the lift was out of order, but they were so kind and let me use the service elevator both ways, as I had booked a taxi, I had several minutes to kill. I ordered a cheese scone, which was light and delicious and pot of tea..they brought it to where I was sat, and I enjoyed my time there...the staff were helpful and fantastic.. 10 out of 10...if I'm in the area again...that's for me...

Fantastic building with lots going on inside from displays, library, cafe, cinema and art displays. Easy to spend time exploring. Toilets are up stairs but as it's council owned I would be confident there are disabled facilities.

Beautiful town hall cafe with outdoor seating which catches the sun all day. 5 stars for the view over the market place and outdoor and indoor space. But 3 stars for the rest. Food distinctly average - salad unappetising with no coleslaw and tuna salty with little mayo. You’ll do much better at other cafes on the market place. Zero stars for customer service despite there being 4 staff and only max 8 customers. I asked for coleslaw when ordering (it was written onto the order) but none on my plate when it arrived. No explanation for this. I also specified no salt due serious health problem (again written down) but my tuna mayo was very salty! Went in after a few bites to enquire - Staff defensive, unsympathetic and aggressive to my query about this. Turns out the tuna comes in salt solution and probably not drained. Staff refused to offer alternative topping. Had to leave most of tuna. They could have offered me an alternative - how much would that have cost them really? She said she would discuss with her catering manager - huh?

Very disappointing lunch. The soup and sandwich deal seemed a winner but the leek and potato soup was lukewarm. The leek and potato was raw. It was as if someone had just blended a leek and potato and not cooked it. It had no taste whatsoever and the sandwich was so dry, it stuck to the roof of my mouth. My husband had a chicken and bacon panini, which was cold and had little filling. We have eaten there previously and the food has been great. Not sure what went wrong on this occasion.
I did complain to a member of staff and she said no one else had complained about the soup. To be fair, I was offered the opportunity to choose something else but I declined.

I feel so sorry for little towns that don’t have their own version of BA town hall. It’s brilliant. Great quality for very reasonable price - lovely large cup of coffee and lovely scones with cream. Staff always pleasant and helpful. Just top notch environment all round.
